Blast from the Past
In the year 1984, Julie Brown releases an EP with a song on it entitled "The Homecoming Queen Has Got A Gun". School shootings do not immediately spike.

Would that make you think that perhaps the popular culture influence nor the availability of guns makes these things happen, but more a certain laxity of moral standards that would manifest itself in another decade? Or perhaps the inclusion of these incidents as major signifiers in the sweeping narrative told by popular media?

I got nothing, but I recall I thought the song was funny at the time, but given how times have changed, not so much any more.

Comments:
I would say the over-medication of the youth could also be a contribution to these types of events. I wouldnt say that there is any less morality now than in the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's or 90's. There were screwed up kids when I was young but not as many of them were on medications for various disorders the doctors are touting kids have these days.

You probably have identified a contributing factor, but it plays into my unstated and ill-defended thesis that the breakdown of the family unit and the pervasive message of lax moral standards leads to this.

Because modern parents and other authorities would rather medicate than morally educate the children.

not sure if it is as much lack of morality than it is lack of responsibility. We had immoral parents throughout history. It comes down to what we define morality today vs. what we define morality yesterday.

Years ago, it was a moral decision to enslave people, burn witches, etc. It isnt that moral now.
