Fred made the best political ad I have ever seen. He rented a truck that was a stick, and he shifted during the ad while looking into the camera. He drove out to his mothers farm and took groceries out of the truck bed to put in her place, while talking about how concerned she was about the rising cost of prescriptions. It made him an everyman and a country boy, both of which he is not.

Condi Rice:

1. Hasn't reformed the State Dept, but instead has been captured by it.

2. Forced Israel into this disasterous "ceasefire".

3. Hasn't accomplished anything of substance in her job as Sec. of State.

Why did this not occur to me? I've NO enthusiasm for any of the Republicans ginning up for the race. But Thompson? Yes, yes, yes! Buddy, I'd beat on doors, man the phones, and empty the piggy bank for the chance to put him at the helm for 8 years or so.

Alas, that isn't enough. A single full Senate term isn't enough seasoning in the political process. Additionally, we're not ready for a 38 year old trophy wife as first lady. Believe me - it will be an issue.

It's cool the way Thompson has been a part of our national life in so many different capacities over the years...Minority Counsel for the Senate Watergate Committee...movie actor...US Senator...TV actor.

He is an articulate guy, to be sure.
